UNIDIR, the Global Survivors Fund (GSF) and the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN are hosting a reception marking the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Connecting to UNIDIR’s immersive art installation, DISARMING SILENCE, the event will be an opportunity to discuss how art, advocacy and research are levers of action against GBV. The reception will bring together survivors, civil society organizations, experts and policy communities for informal exchanges and interactions with the artist.
Women and girls represent the majority of victims and survivors of GBV, often involving the use or threat of a weapon. In times of conflict, gender-based violence often escalates into more egregious, widespread, and weaponized forms, manifesting as conflict-related sexual violence.
Survivors of these crimes are not only left with physical and psychological scars, but they also frequently face intense stigma, and systemic barriers to justice.
Yet against all odds, survivors of GBV and conflict-related sexual violence are reclaiming their voices and reshaping the narrative. Through art, advocacy, and research, they are transforming trauma into agency — challenging stigma, demanding accountability, and driving systemic change. Their leadership not only disrupts cycles of violence but also reimagines justice, healing, and prevention in ways that center dignity, resilience, and survivor expertise.
