The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) held an in-person launch of a new report on Preparing for Success at the Fifth Review Conference of the Chemical Weapons Convention: A Guide to the Issues. This event was the first in a series of events the Institute is hosting in preparation for the Fifth CWC Review Conference, scheduled for 15 to 19 May 2023.
The Review Conference presents an important opportunity to look back at treaty implementation during the concluding five-year period, and to chart the course of the future operation of the CWC. Progress will however require careful preparation both in terms of the development of substantive inputs and building an understanding of the CWC and the Review Conference process. To support CWC delegates, the report includes information related to preparations, procedures, documentation, and participation in past Review Conferences as well as an analysis of salient issues that are likely to be addressed at the Review Conference and recommendations for consideration by CWC States Parties.
A recording of the event is available on UNIDIR’s YouTube Channel or below.
