Launch of a voluntary implementation guide for the global framework for through-life conventional ammunition management

The Global Framework for Through-life Conventional Ammunition Management (GFA), adopted in December 2023 provides a comprehensive framework to address the dual risks associated with ineffective conventional ammunition management. To support the effective implementation of the GFA, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), UNIDIR, Conflict Armament Research (CAR), and the Ammunition Management Advisory Team (AMAT) of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) have jointly developed a voluntary Implementation Guide, under the auspices of the UN SaferGuard Programme.

The event aims to enhance understanding of the Global Framework’s 15 objectives, supporting stakeholders to unpack the key commitments and translate its enabling measures into actionable steps at national, subregional or regional levels. This side event will mark the launch of the guide and provide a platform for discussion on practical ways to implement the GFA at the national, subregional and regional levels.
