This interactive meeting on the margins of the 10th Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference (NPT RevCon) will take stock of progress on gender mainstreaming during this review cycle and identify concrete measures to advance gender diversity, gender analysis and gender equality in nuclear non-proliferation, disarmament, and peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The discussion will build on a working paper submitted to the NPT RevCon. Potential questions for discussion include:
- Why gender perspectives and gender analyses matter in nuclear policies?
- How can we go beyond representation and ensure that women have an equal opportunity to shape the outcomes of nuclear diplomacy? What concrete actions can be taken by the NPT States Parties?
- How can we apply gender analysis and mainstreaming to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament? Who needs to do what to strengthen the integration of gender in this field? What are the benefits and/or challenges?
- How can we apply a gender analysis to peaceful uses of nuclear energy? Given the interlinkages, how do we make progress on both? What are the benefits and/or challenges?
- What are good examples of gender mainstreaming in nuclear research and technical cooperation programmes?
- What outcomes can be achieved in the NPT Review Conference that would strengthen gender equality, diversity and inclusion?
