On 19-20 February 2024, United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament for Asia and The Pacific (UNRCPD) jointly hosted a workshop on ‘Regional Perspectives on Nuclear Risk Reduction in Outer Space’, in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. This workshop was generously funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
This closed-door workshop convened experts with space and nuclear expertise to exchange perspectives on the space-nuclear nexus, including escalation pathways stemming from developments in outer space, and discussed possible elements on a common risk reduction agenda at the nexus. The discussions were held under the Chatham House rule.
