Five years after gender and diversity considerations were first included in the Oslo Action Plan, this side event will assess the progress that has been made since 2019 and identify the gaps that remain. This discussion brings together gender focal points, representatives from mine-affected states, key donors, the Gender and Diversity Working Group (GDWG) and partners.
Moderated by UNIDIR, the session will explore advancements, insights from field operations and highlight ongoing challenges and opportunities to take gender and diversity considerations seriously in the implementation of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention. The goal is to ensure meaningful and sustained engagement with gender and diversity considerations in the implementation of the Convention. Key themes will include:
- Best practices for gender and diversity in mine action;
- Integrating the women, peace and security agenda;
- Feminist foreign policy in the context of humanitarian disarmament.
During this side event to the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World, the Convention’s gender focal points will present their working paper, and the formal evaluation of the Gender and Diversity Working Group, funded by Norway, will be launched offering a comprehensive review of achievements and lessons learned.
