UNIDIR, Halo Trust, the Colombian Campaign to Ban Landmines and the Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN in Geneva are pleased to invite you to a side event taking place at the 22nd Meeting of the States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC).
This event will explore the synergies between the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda and mine action, showcasing projects that bring together these policy areas in various parts of the world. Panelists will share lessons learned from integrating gender perspectives into mine action, examine progress made in promoting women’s leadership across the sector, and highlight initiatives that prevent gender-based violence (GBV) and foster women’s empowerment in communities freed from landmines.
Key topics for discussion include:
- Lessons learned from 25 years of the WPS agenda and the links with mine action;
- Enabling environments for women’s participation and leadership in demining;
- Preventing gender-based violence and promoting the economic inclusion of women in areas cleared of landmines.
The event will also see the launch of a new UNIDIR report: Closing Gaps: Strengthening the Women, Peace and Security Agenda through Arms Control and Disarmament.
