The Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN in New York, The Permanent Mission of Malta to the UN in New York, UNIDIR, the UN Department of Peace Operations, and the UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict Network are pleased to host an event marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.
This event will launch a new report by UNIDIR, “Deploying the Arms Control and Disarmament Toolbox: Strengthening the role of UN Peace Operations to Prevent Sexual Violence”. The report examines how UN peace operations, which are central to UN efforts to combat conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), can leverage arms control and disarmament tools such as disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, weapons and ammunition management, community violence reduction and arms embargoes to support both long-term structural prevention and shorter-term operational prevention on the ground.
Through a moderated discussion with experts and field practitioners the event will address the challenges and opportunities for incorporating gender-responsive arms control and disarmament into current CRSV prevention efforts.
