Building capacity for trust and security in cyberspace

Amid increasing geopolitical tension and growing mistrust at the international level, strengthening trust and security in the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is becoming even more essential to fostering innovation and advancing sustainable development.

The Framework for Responsible State Behavior in the use of ICTs contributes to the building of an open, safe, secure, stable, accessible, peaceful and interoperable ICT environment. Capacity-building constitutes one of the main and cross-cutting pillars of the framework and has been recognized by States as an important confidence-building measure.

UNIDIR and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are organizing this side event to support the World Summit on the Information Society themes of “Building confidence and security in the use of ICTs” and “Capacity building”. The event will look at successful examples of innovative, context-sensitive, and locally tailored capacity-building efforts to support the implementation of the framework across the globe. It will highlight lessons learned and good practices in terms of multistakeholder engagement, whole-of-society and gender-responsive approaches to these endeavours.
