UNIDIR’s Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics

The Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics is a flagship event organized by UNIDIR’s Security and Technology Programme exploring how fast-evolving AI technologies are reshaping national, regional and global security.

As AI transforms security environments, effective governance and international cooperation are increasingly vital. The conference brings together diplomats, policymakers, industry, researchers and civil society to examine practical approaches to AI governance in the context of international peace and security.

In 2025, the inaugural edition of the conference reached over half a million people worldwide.

The conference at a glance

Building on the ongoing work of the Roundtable for AI, Security and Ethics, UNIDIR’s Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics promotes open dialogue, cross-border trust, and evidence-based approaches that transcend geopolitical divides.

The conference features a dynamic mix of formats designed to spark fresh ideas and actionable insights, including:

  • Lightning talks showcasing breakthrough concepts
  • High-level panels with senior officials and global experts
  • Technical deep-dives with practitioners and researchers
  • Interactive roundtables for cross-sector dialogue
  • Expert interviews and fireside conversations
  • A posters exhibition

The conference’s programme builds primarily on submissions from the multistakeholder community, providing a platform for all to present and showcase innovative and under-represented perspectives on AI and international peace and security. Through its call for abstracts, the conference welcomes fresh insights from technical and policy experts. Selected submissions become part of the programme, with authors invited to present to a global audience.

UNIDIR’s Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics 2025 took place on 27-28 March in a hybrid format at the Palais des Nations in Geneva and online.

Held as a flagship event, it brought together the diplomatic community – as well as experts from the military, industry, academia, civil society organizations and research labs – to jointly consider and address the complex implications of AI for national, regional and global security and resilience.
