Side event to the 10th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime.
International efforts to tackle trafficking in firearms tend to focus on the weapons and place less emphasis on the associated ammunition, in spite of the latter’s importance in enabling firearm-related crime and violence. Accurately diagnosing the problem of illicit ammunition flows is paramount for effective policymaking and law enforcement. Speakers at this event will discuss the approaches for monitoring illicit flows and use of small-calibre ammunition, including new avenues for cooperation between research institutes, governments, and forensic departments.
Speakers include experts and practitioners from Small Arms Survey, UNIDIR, UNODC, and the Jamaican Institute of Forensic Science and Legal Medicine.
