UNIDIR, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland of Angola, and with the support of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) Voluntary Trust Fund, is organizing a workshop on the draft Law on Conventional Weapons, Their Ammunition and Other Related Materials.
Angola has been a signatory to the ATT since 2013. As part of its preparations to become an ATT State Party, the Ministry of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland has determined that the country’s national legal and regulatory framework needs to be updated to ensure compliance with the treaty’s obligations and provisions. A key element of this process is finalizing a draft Law on Conventional Weapons, Their Ammunition and Other Related Materials. The draft Law will address gaps in Angola’s national control system and establish the legal basis for effective ATT implementation.
The two-day workshop aims to review the draft Law and support its finalization. The workshop will bring together relevant national stakeholders to finalize Angola’s draft Law on Conventional Weapons, Their Ammunition and Other Related Materials, so that it will be ready to present to senior government officials for validation. This event therefore marks an important milestone in strengthening Angola’s national control system and advancing its preparations for ATT ratification.
