Unpacking the AI-cyber nexus in malicious ICT activities

UNIDIR is pleased to invite you to a side event to the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on security of and in the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs).

The increased use of ICTs for purposes that may pose a risk to international stability and peace is of growing concern among UN Member States. Moreover, States have also noticed that technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), could increase the speed and enhance the targeting potential of malicious ICT activities. Meanwhile, there are increasing AI-enabled ICT security solutions available that can strengthen defenders’ capabilities to cope with malicious ICT activities.

To further investigate this nexus between cyber and AI and its impact on ICT security, the Security and Technology Programme at UNIDIR is organizing this side event to present and discuss the results of a recent study how the adoption of AI solutions is changing both offensive and defensive capabilities in the different phases of a malicious ICT activity.

This side event will provide an opportunity for States to learn more about current and future adoptions of AI solutions and their impact on ICT security, ask questions to experts and engage in discussions on how to further address the risks and opportunities of the cyber–AI nexus.
