The UNIDIR Expert Network on Space Security brings together early-career professionals, researchers, and institutional knowledge partners from around the world to contribute directly to practical, policy-oriented work that supports inclusive and forward-looking space governance.
As space activity expands across civil, commercial, and security domains, there is a growing need for informed analysis, accessible tools, and globally representative inputs to help shape international dialogue. The Network provides a dedicated platform for emerging voices to participate in the design and maintenance of global governance resources, contribute to applied research, and connect with a broader community of practice committed to peaceful use of outer space.
Collaborative Projects and Global Partnerships
The UNIDIR Expert Network on Space Security unites academic institutions, early-career professionals, and research organizations to collaboratively develop and maintain key space governance tools. These include the open-access Space Security Portal, which compiles national space policies and legal frameworks, and the multilingual Lexicon for Outer Space Security, providing clarity over essential terms in multilateral discussions. Network members actively contribute by reviewing content, contributing new information, and ensuring the tools reflect diverse regional perspectives.
In addition, the Network is supporting the development of the Map of Space Threats and Consequences, an interactive initiative that visualizes a range of space activities and their potential impacts in space and on Earth. Through workshops and collaborative research, knowledge partners are contributing foundational research to the project’s development.
Through such collaborative efforts, the Network enhances the quality and inclusivity of UNIDIR’s outputs, while providing tangible opportunities for global engagement in space governance to young and established experts around the globe.
