Mely Caballero-Anthony is a Senior Fellow at UNIDIR’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Programme. She is also a Professor of International Relations, holds the President’s Chair for International Relations and Security Studies, serves as Head of the Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies and is Associate Dean for External Engagement at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University. Mely’s research interests include regionalism and multilateralism in the Asia-Pacific; human security and non-traditional security; biosecurity; nuclear security; peacebuilding and global governance.
Mely has served as the secretary-general of the Consortium on Non-Traditional Security Studies in Asia since 2008 and is currently a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Council on Nature and Security, and the International Climate Security Expert Network. She was Vice President at large of the governing council of the International Studies Association and was a member of its Global South Task Force from 2018-2021. From 2013-2017, she was a member of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters and served as its chair in 2016. She is also a member of the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network on Nuclear Non-Proliferation. From 2011-2012, she was director of external relations at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Secretariat.
Mely has published extensively on a broad range of security issues in the Asia-Pacific. Her latest publications include: Climate Security in Southeast Asia: Navigating Concepts, Approaches and Practices (Third World Quarterly, 2024) and Human Security and Empowerment in Asia (Routledge, 2024).
