His research focuses on international law in cyberspace, AI and international security. Lefeng is interested in exploring how emerging AI technologies are transforming the foundations of global legal order and strategic stability, particularly in the context of great-power competition, as well as how international law applies to AI-enabled weapon systems. His current work also further investigates the design of practical confidence-building measures to manage military AI risks, especially regarding strategic competition among major powers.
