Helena Trenkic 

Dr Helena Stolnik Trenkic is a Graduate Professional with UNIDIR’s Conventional Weapons Programme, supporting research on weapons and ammunition management.

Prior to joining UNIDIR, Helena worked at the EU Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Vienna, covering politico-military files including small arms and light weapons, conventional arms control, confidence- and security-building measures and hybrid threats. She has also worked at the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina on election integrity; at the United Nations Secretariat in New York on responding to cases of sexual abuse by UN staff against beneficiaries; and at the Advice on Individual Rights in Europe Centre, where she co-authored a policy paper on the social reuse of confiscated criminal assets in the Western Balkans.

Helena holds a PhD in History from the University of Cambridge; her doctorate used the case study of Yugoslavia to trace the developing and competing uses of self-determination in the post-1945 European and international security order. She remains a Postdoctoral Affiliate at the University of Cambridge, where she also completed her BA and MPhil. She speaks English and Serbo-Croatian, can get by in French and is working on her German and Russian.
