Christian Bueger
Dr Christian Bueger is a research fellow at UNIDIR and professor of International Relations at the University of Copenhagen. A leading authority on maritime security, his research encompasses blue crime responses, naval operations, maritime domain awareness and strategic security frameworks.
He earned his PhD from the European University Institute and has held prestigious fellowships at the National University of Singapore, University of Stellenbosch and University College London. Dr Bueger regularly briefs governments and other stakeholders on maritime security issues, and in 2025 he was invited to brief both the UN Security Council and the European Parliament.
Dr Bueger is co-author of Understanding Maritime Security (with Tim Edmunds, Oxford University Press) and has contributed to the field through over 200 scholarly publications on maritime security, diplomacy, and international politics.
