National Survey of Implementation of United Nations Recommendations on Responsible Use of ICTs by States in the Context of International Security

The UNIDIR Security & Technology Programme and the Permanent Mission of Australia to the United Nations were pleased to invite you to a side event to the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Security of and in the Use of Information and Communications Technologies to launch the online self-assessment tool National Survey of Implementation of United Nations recommendations on responsible use of ICTs by states in the context of international security (‘Survey’).

The online Survey implements the recommendations of the 2021 OEWG and GGE reports, that “States, on a voluntary basis, use the model ‘National Survey of Implementation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 70/237’ (to be made available online) to help them assess their own priorities, needs and resources”.

The Survey collates national take-up of the recommendations from the 2015 GGE report, as endorsed and elaborated by the 2021 OEWG and GGE reports, with a view to assisting assessment of the recommendations’ further development and implementation.

The side event presented the online platform for the Survey, explained its objectives, linkage to the UNIDIR Cyber Policy Portal, and its uses, including: implementation, transparency, information sharing, gaps analysis, and developing targeted capacity building programs.

A recording of the event is available on the UNIDIR Youtube Channel (or see below).

Speakers included:

  • Mitch Fifield, Australia’s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations
  • Isaac Morales, General Coordinator of Multidimensional Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico
  • Dr Giacomo Persi Paoli, Head of Programme, UNIDIR Security & Technology Programme
  • Lenka Filipová, Associate Project Coordinator, UNIDIR Security & Technology Programme
