Argentina, the Small Arms Survey and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) hosted a side event on Mitigating gender-based violence through the effective implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty.
The event brought together experts to discuss ways to leverage the ATT to better prevent gender-based violence. Drawing on the working paper presented by Argentina and UNIDIR’s recent research on Addressing Weapons in Conflict-related Sexual Violence, this event brought together experts to explore how:

GBV / VAWC risk mitigation criteria can contribute to effective implementation of the ATT;

National policies and instruments contribute to preventing arms-related GBV / VAWC;
-
ATT implementation can be synergized with other international and regional instruments and frameworks to better prevent GBV;
-
States Parties can leverage the ATT as a forum to exchange and collaborate on this topic.
