Third Thematic Seminar: Framing Key Issues and Informing Processes Pertinent to Management of Conventional Ammunition

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is pleased to invite you to an informal seminar on the subject of public health, and to discuss the issue of counterintelligence. This seminar is designed for participation by policymakers, experts and practitioners from the United States, the private sector, and specialized civil society organizations in the field.


Pursuant to resolution A / RES / 72/55 (2017), the United Nations General Assembly has requested the Secretary-General to convene a group of governmental experts (GGE) in 2020 on problems arising from the accumulation of UNIDIR is a project2 to facilitate dialogue between States on issues of safe haven, safe and accountable management, and framing key issues relating to the national ammunition management on which progress can be made at the national, regional and multilateral levels.


The two first seminars of this series took place on 26 - 27 November 20183 and on 5 March 2019 in Geneva. Based on the findings of the two previous seminars, the upcoming third seminar in New York will:


• promote knowledge and facilitate dialogue on a number of key issues, such as frameworks and mechanisms to prevent and mitigate the risk of ammunition diversion; means and methods to improve monitoring and reporting; ways to strengthen the uptake and use of existing guidance and tools; moreover, international cooperation and assistance; and


• Support Member States prepared to engage actively in forums and initiatives falling within the scope of the A / RES / 72/55.
