In 2009 the Member States of the United Nations decided to convene a Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty in 2012 “to elaborate a legally binding instrument on the highest possible common international standards for the transfer of conventional arms”.
To support inclusive and in-depth discussions on an ATT, the EU conferred UNIDIR with responsibility for implementation of two projects to promote regional discussions such an instrument.
This publication summarises the results of the second project on “Supporting the Arms Trade Treaty Negotiations through Regional Discussions and Expertise Sharing” and the insights gained at its seminars.
