Perspectives on the Middle East WMD-Free Zone

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the European Union (EU) hosted a hybrid side event on “Perspectives on the Middle East WMD-Free Zone” on the margins of the first meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the 2026 NPT Review Conference.

 

The event was an opportunity to introduce the second phase of UNIDIR Middle East WMD-Free Zone Project, including its scope and main objectives.

The event featured opening remarks by EU Special Envoy for Non-proliferation and Disarmament, Ambassador Marjolijn van Deelen, followed by a presentation by UNIDIR Project Head, Dr. Chen Zak Kane and a discussion with senior diplomats and experts.
