UNIDIR and the Stimson Center are hosting the launch of their new publication, Mainstreaming Gender in Cybersecurity: A Compendium of Good Practices, held as a side event to the Global Mechanism on developments in the field of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in the context of international security.
Over the past year, the two partner organizations convened several virtual workshops with a curated and diverse group of experts and practitioners from governments, international and regional organizations, civil society, academia and industry working on cybersecurity. These workshops helped identify key examples, opportunities and limitations around integrating gender perspectives into cybersecurity policies and practices.
The resulting compendium distils good practices, lessons learned, recommendations and challenges gathered from different communities of practice and is envisaged to be a useful resource for Member States and across the multistakeholder community. Through this side event, the collaborating organizations invite engagement on this project to help foster conversations around integrating gender considerations within the Global Mechanism on ICT security. The event will:
- Explore recommendations on gender mainstreaming into cybersecurity, including on addressing cyber threats and incidents, the application of international law in cyberspace, national cyber policies and practices and cyber capacity-building;
- Share insights and showcase good practices, challenges and lessons learnt included in the compendium;
- Learn from different practical efforts to integrate gender into national cyber policies and practices; and
- Engage Member States, civil society, international organizations and other relevant stakeholders in an interactive discussion.
