In June 2023, UNIDIR – with the support of France and Germany – organized a high-level retreat in Montreux, Switzerland, to discuss ideas for revitalizing the work of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) and its relationship with the wider disarmament machinery. Following the retreat, in August 2023, UNIDIR went on to publish a factual summary of the discussions in Montreux.
This UNIDIR-UNODA event, organized with the support of France and Germany, will revisit findings from the Montreux retreat, discuss progress in the CD over the course of 2024 and early 2025, and consider potential next steps towards further revitalization of the work of the CD in the coming years.
