Safeguarding critical infrastructure beyond borders: Uniting diplomatic and technical efforts for a cyber resilient digital future

UNIDIR, in collaboration with the Government of the Netherlands, the International Telecommunication Union, and the Global Forum for Cybersecurity Expertise, is pleased to announce an Open Forum at the Internet Governance Forum 2024 under the subtheme of “Improving digital governance for the Internet we want”. This event will convene key stakeholders to discuss the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure beyond borders and fostering collaboration between diplomatic and technical communities for a resilient digital future.

Cyber-resilient digital infrastructure is crucial for sustainable development and international security. Yet, the increasing prevalence of malicious cyber activities targeting critical infrastructure poses significant risks, including cascading cross-border effects that threaten global stability. To address these challenges, it is vital to unite the expertise of diplomatic and technical communities, engage multistakeholder actors, and enhance international collaboration to protect essential services.

This session will focus on actionable strategies to break silos between disciplines, strengthen cooperation among cybersecurity agencies and computer emergency response teams, and empower experts, particularly from developing countries, to participate effectively in global initiatives. Participants will also explore opportunities for global multistakeholder collaboration, including through discussions on establishing a future UN permanent forum on cybersecurity.

Agenda

The session will feature an interactive panel discussion (30 minutes), audience Q&A (20 minutes), and concluding summary remarks (5 minutes). Speakers will address questions, with opportunities to engage with the session participants.
