In 2024, UNIDIR’s Managing Exits from Armed Conflict (MEAC) project, in collaboration with 100cameras, War Child, UNICEF and a series of local partners, launched an ambitious participatory intervention across Nigeria, Iraq and Colombia, with the goal of reshaping how the global community engages with and supports young people affected by conflict.
This participatory intervention encompassed a multi-media integrated training programme to equip participants with photography and research skills, the space to process their experiences and build their network, and eventually elevate their voices into policymaking discussions that will ultimately impact them and their peers.
In November, a high-profile exhibition at the UN Headquarters in New York will showcase the photographs and reflections of these children and youth. The exhibit will serve as a powerful testament to the transformative role of photography, offering a platform for young people to visually communicate their lived experiences of conflict and their vision for a peaceful future. Through a combination of photographs and personal reflections, the exhibition will provide a raw and unfiltered glimpse into their emotional landscapes, depicting the challenges, aspirations, and hopes that shape their daily lives.
When and where
The exhibition will take place from 9 November 2024 to 21 November 2024, in person at 1B Corridor, United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States.
