Theme 3: Harnessing technology for peace

1. Learn

Technology can inspire, connect, divide or even harm. This theme’s photography skill is juxtaposition—placing opposites side by side to spark emotion or provoke thought.

You’ll also explore visual contrast, using light vs dark, old vs new, connected vs isolated, or hope vs fear to tell a deeper story.

Ask yourself:

  • How can a single image show both the risks and hopes of technology?
  • What does it look like when people and machines interact—peacefully or with tension?
  • Where do you see innovation shaping your community, and who’s being left behind?

Let your photo speak to these contrasts, helping us imagine a digital future that is peaceful, just, and inclusive.

This video contains subtitles which you can activate or deactivate by clicking on the closed captions button (CC). In the settings you can select Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish subtitles (for additional languages click “auto-translate”). 2. Create

Prompt: What does the future of technology feel like to you—hopeful, risky or both?

Look around your world. Where do you see technology connecting people—or creating distance? How does it help or harm peace in your daily life?

Now, take a photo using juxtaposition or contrast to show your message. Try placing opposites side by side.

Use your image to spark a bigger question about the role of technology in building peace. Then, write a short caption: What story are you telling—and what should we see in it?
