Preventing Armed Conflict and Armed Violence

Understanding drivers of demand for arms and ammunition

The Conventional Arms and Ammunition Programme’s Preventing Armed Conflict and Armed Violence research pillar gathers information on the context-specific drivers of demand for illicit and destabilizing accumulations of conventional arms and ammunition in order to inform efforts to put in place effective conventional arms control measures to prevent armed conflict and armed violence.

The pillar’s work focuses on integrating conventional arms control into United Nations’ conflict analysis, prevention and management activities, as well as on increasing understanding on policies and practices that can mitigate civilian harm and contribute to armed-violence reduction in fragile settings.
