National and Regional Approaches to Weapons and Ammunition Management in Africa

First Regional Weapons and Ammunition Management Lessons Learned Seminar organised by UNIDIR in cooperation with the African Union Commission. The overall objective of this first regional seminar is to enhance knowledge and dialogue among States, regional organizations, the United Nations and expert NGOs on good practices and lessons learned, as well as on the means and methods to further strengthen national and regional approaches to WAM in Africa. Findings from this seminar will support ongoing efforts to review and implement, as well as to identify synergies among, relevant sub/regional initiatives and roadmaps in Africa, including the African Union Silencing of the Guns.

SPEAKERS:

A preliminary agenda and list of speakers will be sent to invited participants ahead of the Seminar.

Phase I will be conducted in three sessions held on:

24 November 2020, 14:00 – 17:00 CET, Online

1 December 2020, 14:00 – 17:00 CET, Online

3 December 2020, 14:00 – 17:00 CET, Online

PARTICIPANTS:

10 African States that have undertaken WAM baseline assessments, regional organizations, assistance providing States, United Nations entities, other international organizations and specialized expert non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Select number of prospective WAM baseline assessment States in Africa will be invited.
