Report Launch: Women Managing Weapons

This event is a virtual side-event to the seventh Biennial Meeting of State (BMS) of the UN Programme of Action (UN PoA).

UNIDIR’s new study Women Managing Weapons: Perspectives for Increasing Women’s Participation in Weapons and Ammunition Management explores women’s participation in the field of weapons and ammunition management, particularly their lived experiences in WAM technical roles, such as stockpile managers, armourers, ammunition and technical experts, explosive ordnance disposal specialist. The purpose is to unpack the challenges faced by these women and identify good practices for further inclusion of women in WAM. UNIDIR’s new report provides ideas for states, international organizations and disarmament stakeholders to improve gender diversity in implementation of arms control commitments, such as the UN PoA and its relevant instruments.
To mark the launch of this report, UNIDIR invites you to an interactive side event. This will be an opportunity to hear from the authors of the report, as well as experts and practitioners who contributed to this research. Panellists will share their insights on how to transform organizational cultures and make the field of WAM more inclusive and what this means for arms control and the wider security sector.
