A side event to the fourth substantive session of the OEWG on Ammunition
The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), in collaboration with UN SaferGuard, The Small Arms Survey, Canada, El Salvador and Ghana organised a side event on Best Practices for Gender Equality in Conventional Arms Control.
To understand how gender equality commitments are informing action on the ground, UNIDIR surveyed 40 organizations dealing with various aspects of conventional arms and ammunition control and disarmament around the world, including national authorities, international and regional/subregional organizations, civil society and think tanks. The results are presented in a new report on Best Practices for Promoting Gender Equality in Conventional Arms Control.
This event included a presentation of survey results, and panelists discussed distinct practices that are being implemented to improve gender balance and transform organizational cultures. They also reflected on challenges and what is needed to achieve gender equality in conventional arms control, in particular, in the context of the OEWG.
