The UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) held a series of regional briefings discussing digital tools aimed at facilitating confidence- and capacity-building in cyberspace.
Recent deliberations of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on security of and in the use of information and communications technologies (ICT) demonstrated a growing interest of the international community in digital tools supporting international cyber stability. As recognised by the past relevant multilateral deliberations, digital tools and resources such as UNIDIR’s Cyber Policy Portal can facilitate capacity- and confidence-building, and therefore promote international security and stability in cyberspace.
In preparation for the Fifth Substantive Session of the OEWG in July 2023, UNIDIR’s Security and Technology Programme organised a series of regional briefings. These briefings introduced and demonstrated various UNIDIR’s tools and resources, highlighting their potential to assist the UN Member States in their relevant multilateral endeavours.
Furthermore, the interactive briefings served as a platform to discuss future developments of the UNIDIR Cyber Policy Portal; attendees also had the opportunity to contribute suggestions and discuss developments that may be of interest to Member States.
PARTICIPANTS
UNIDIR encouraged the participation of diplomats and policy makers covering cybersecurity issues. The invitations, including the registration links, were shared with the Permanent Missions to the UN in Geneva, New York and Vienna.
LANGUAGE
All regional briefings were delivered in English. Interpretation into French was available for the regional briefing for African States, interpretation into Spanish was available for the regional briefing for Latin American and Caribbean States, and interpretation into French and Spanish was provided for the regional briefing for Western European and other States.
