The Roundtable for AI, Security and Ethics (RAISE), a collaborative multi-year initiative led by UNIDIR and in partnership with Microsoft, intends to foster inclusive and multisectoral engagement. By convening experts from diverse backgrounds, including industry and civil society, RAISE promotes open dialogue and cooperation to address the complex implications of AI for national and global security.
In March 2024, RAISE was launched in Bellagio, Italy, as a multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral and cross-regional coalition. By bringing together experts and thought leaders from around the world, RAISE aspires to lay the foundation for robust global AI governance grounded in cooperation, transparency and mutual learning.
In this context, the second edition of RAISE has been organized for 4-6 September 2024. The event will take place just days before the Responsible AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) Summit 2024, which will enhance synergies between the discussions held at RAISE and the broader conversations at REAIM. The objectives of this second roundtable are three-fold:
- Review and consolidate: Deconstruct current approaches to AI in security and defence.
- Apply the priority themes into practice: Building on the six priority themes identified in Bellagio, discuss their applications for security and defence contexts in which AI technologies are being developed and deployed.
- Strategize: Define RAISE’s strategic direction and workplan for the months ahead.
