This event took place alongside the fourth substantive session of the Open-Ended Working Group on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security (UN OEWG-ITC).
Building on the findings of UNIDIR’s recent publications on the topic, the side event promoted dialogue among OEWG participants on gender mainstreaming in multilateral cybersecurity processes. Panellists discussed ideas to advance gender approaches to cybersecurity and to promote women’s meaningful participation in international peace and security in cyberspace. Questions for discussion included:
-
What do we mean by gender approaches to cybersecurity?
-
Why do we need intersectional, gender approaches to cybersecurity?
-
What practical measures could be taken by states and multilateral organizations to enhance synergies between cybersecurity processes and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda?
