The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is pleased to invite you to this First Committee Online Event on how advances in science and technology present several challenges and opportunities for arms control and disarmament regimes.
In particular, the event will focus on some of the opportunities presented by advances in selected technologies – specifically remote sensing, open-source satellite data and machine learning – for enhancing monitoring and investigations in WMD-related arms control and disarmament.
The session will further consider some of the wider social and political requirements for realizing the theoretical potential of these technologies and validating the use of new tools in the sensitive area of WMD treaty compliance.
