Associate Researcher Managing Exits from Armed Conflict

Sofia Rivas is an Associate Researcher with UNIDIR’s Managing Exits from Armed Conflict project.

Her research focuses on better understanding communities’ experiences and perceptions of conflict, contributing to practical, context-sensitive solutions for conflict prevention and resolution in Colombia. She is particularly passionate about the gendered dimensions of conflict, advocating for the visibility and inclusion of women, girls and LGBTQI+ populations.

Prior to working at UNIDIR, Sofia was a Junior Researcher at the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research, where she helped design and implement research methodologies to explore individuals’ trajectories in and out of armed groups and to assess the effectiveness of reintegration programs in Colombia.

She holds master’s degrees in Social and Cultural Psychology as well as in Gender, Peace and Security from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Sofia speaks English, French, and Spanish.
