The tenth anniversary of the adoption and entry into force of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in 2023-2024 marks a pivotal moment for assessing global and regional efforts in ATT universalization and implementation.
In March 2024, the Government of the Republic of Liberia, through the Liberia National Commission on Arms (LiNCA), in partnership with UNIDIR, organized the inaugural pan-African dialogue on the universalization and effective implementation of ATT. Supported by the ATT Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF), the four-day Monrovia Workshop convened over fifty representatives from nineteen African States, as well as representatives from the ATT Secretariat, the African Union (AU) and various sub-regional organizations in Africa. The workshop facilitated the exchange of national experiences, identified key challenges and highlighted effective measures for enhancing ATT universalization and implementation in Africa.
This side event will share key findings from the Monrovia Workshop and aims to increase knowledge about the status of ATT universalization and implementation efforts in Africa and share insights on implementing an ATT VTF project with a regional focus.
