On 24 November 2025, UNIDIR will host its flagship Innovations Dialogue which examines developments in science and technology. This year, the theme focuses on “Neurotechnologies and their implications for international peace and security”.

As part of the event, UNIDIR will organize a poster exhibition on “Promoting Responsible Neurotechnology in the Military Domain“. This will offer a unique platform for researchers, technologists and policymakers to present cutting-edge insights and visionary ideas in an accessible, visual format.

Why a call for poster abstracts?

Neurotechnologies are rapidly evolving and have the potential to transform military operations and human-machine interaction in warfare. However, their deployment – especially in the military domain – raises complex ethical, legal and strategic questions.

The poster exhibition aims to exhibit forward-looking thought and foster multi-stakeholder dialogue on how neurotechnologies can be governed and applied responsibly to uphold international peace and security.

Submission guidelines

UNIDIR invites poster abstracts of up to 200 words that align with the overarching theme. Submissions should present innovative, thought-provoking ideas or research that address one of the following four sub-themes:

  1. Technological state of the art and current applications: What are the latest technological developments in neurotechnology, what is the current state of the art and what are promising areas of research? How can technologists work with ethicists and policymakers to develop responsible neurotechnologies?
  2. Promoting responsible innovation in military neurotechnology: How can armed forces develop and field safe and secure neurotechnologies, while respecting ethical and legal frameworks? What key principles should guide the development and deployment of neurotechnologies in the military domain? What is the role of the scientific community in managing dual-use technology development?
  3. Risks and opportunities of military neurotechnology: What are the risks linked to the deployment of neurotechnologies in the military domain, and how can they be mitigated? What are the opportunities of military neurotechnologies, how can we ensure states reap the benefits while minimizing the risks?
  4. Towards the governance of military neurotechnology: How can the international community ensure the good governance of neurotechnology in the military domain? What role can the disarmament community play? What role should the scientific community play in developing and implementing governance frameworks?
