María Garzón Maceda

María is an Associate Researcher for the WMD programme at UNIDIR. She provides research, analysis and operational support to the programme's workstreams. 

Before joining UNIDIR, María was a Policy Leader Fellow at the European University Institute, where she worked on strengthening the participation of the Global South in WMD regimes. Previously, María was a civil servant with ten years of progressive experience at the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she worked on the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. She is currently an active participant in several youth and women initiatives in the field.

With substantive interdisciplinary training, María holds a Master's Degree in International Affairs from the Graduate Institute in Geneva and graduated cum laude as a Bachelor in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires. María speaks English, Spanish and French.
