Dongyoun Cho is a Senior Researcher on the Security and Technology Programme at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR). Her research interests focus on the intersection of security and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomy, cyber, and space.

A retired Major of the Republic of Korea Army, she has over 17 years of experience in intelligence, military strategy, defence policy, and the aerospace and defence industry. Before joining UNIDIR, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Military Studies at Seokyeong University. She also established and led the Center for Future Defense Technology and Entrepreneurship at Seokyeong University as a director.

She graduated from the Korea Military Academy and was commissioned as a second lieutenant officer in 2004. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and was a World Fellow at Yale University. She speaks Korean, English and French.
