Alessandro Viola
Alessandro Viola is a Graduate Professional in UNIDIR’s Conventional Arms and Ammunition Programme, supporting the research pillar on the prevention of armed conflict and armed violence. His expertise focuses on the application of international humanitarian law and its interaction with international criminal law and human rights.
Alessandro holds a Master’s degree in Law from LUISS University, a second level Master’s degree in International Humanitarian Law and Armed Conflict from the University of Turin and the Italian General Staff of Defence. He is currently pursuing an Executive Master’s degree in International Law in Armed Conflict at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.
Before joining UNIDIR, he interned at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals. He later supported the work of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and gained field experience in Myanmar with the Karen Human Rights Group.
Alessandro speaks English, Italian and Spanish, as well as basic French and Burmese.
