Side Event: Cyber Policy Portal Clinic

Our Security and Technology Programme is pleased to invite you to a live demonstration of the UNIDIR Cyber Policy Portal. This will take place alongside the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on security of and in the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs).

The Cyber Policy Portal, UNIDIR’s confidence-building tool, recently gained a number of important features. Notably, the Portal is now available in all six UN official languages and features a dedicated search function, enhancing both the accessibility and the functionality of the Portal. The Portal now also serves as a gateway to the National Survey of Implementation of United Nations Recommendations on Responsible Use of ICTs by States in the Context of International Security.

UNIDIR’s Security and Technology Programme is organizing an interactive event to showcase the Portal’s features and the wider utility of this confidence-building tool. This event will provide an opportunity to learn about recent and future improvements to the Cyber Policy Portal, its confidence-building objectives and its underlying data collection methodology. It will also cover the aforementioned National Survey and the upcoming Cyber Policy Portal Database. Participants will also be able to meet the team behind the UNIDIR Cyber Policy Portal, ask questions and provide suggestions on the future development of the Portal.

ABOUT THE CYBER POLICY PORTAL

Launched in January 2019, the UNIDIR Cyber Policy Portal, is an interactive map of the global cyber-policy landscape. It provides profiles of the cyber policies of all 193 UN Member States, in addition to various intergovernmental organizations and multilateral frameworks. This confidence-building tool seeks to support informed participation by relevant stakeholders in all policy processes and promote trust, transparency, and cooperation in cyberspace.

Last year, reports from both UN processes dedicated to the international ICT peace and security – the GGE and the OEWG – recommended that States make use of the Portal. In 2019 and 2021 alike, the Cyber Policy Portal was selected to be showcased at the Paris Peace Forum.
