Progress toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula critically depends on finding a way to constrain and roll back the nuclear program of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. UNIDIR presents a research report that outlines an arrangement for a verified freeze of fissile material production on the Korean Peninsula. This arrangement would allow to begin a verification program that would not require a comprehensive declaration of all DPRK’s nuclear activities or access to its fissile materials in military use. It would, however, make it possible to verify the end of production and provide a path to expanding verification to all materials and activities and eventual elimination of nuclear weapons.
