Statement by Egypt on Nuclear Verification at the 4th Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD

The statement reflects Egypt’s views on various aspects of verification. It calls for building on existing mechanisms and relying on the NPT and IAEA’s comprehensive safeguards agreements measures. Additional arrangements could be considered later, after the treaty’s entry into force. The statement recalls the IAEA experience and legal basis for nuclear disarmament verification as well as the GGE report on nuclear verification, all of which could contribute to pursuing verification of disarmament under the treaty.
