Taher El-Sooni President of the 4th Session ME WMDFZ Conference at the Opening Session

The Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD held its fourth session. 22 out of 24 members of the conference attended. Somalia and Israel did not attend. China, France, the Russian Federation, the UK, BWC-ISU, IAEA, and OPCW attended as observers; the US did not attend.

Ambassador Taher El-Sonni of Libya resided over the conference, which adopted a report, and a decision which endorses the incoming president at the end of the preceding session to allow the incoming president time to prepare, as opposed to the old practice which is endorsing the incoming president only during the beginning of the next session. Kuwait submitted a working paper; in addition, the OPCW, IAEA and BWC ISU prepared background documents.
