For many years, UNIDIR has supported various GGEs on EST issues. The GGEs convene to advise the UN Secretary General on specific topics and are a key mechanism within UN disarmament machinery.

Support for the Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security (2014–2015)

UNIDIR acted as the expert consultant to the Secretary-General's Group of Governmental Experts meeting on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security.

Researchers: Kerstin Vignard, James Lewis

Support from UNIDIR's core funders provides the foundation for all of the Institute's activities.
In addition, dedicated project funding was received from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.
