Support for the OEWG on Reducing Space Threats

Through A/RES/76/231 the UN General Assembly has convened an open-ended working group to take stock of the existing regulatory frameworks concerning threats arising from State behaviors with respect to outer space. It will also consider current and future threats by States to space systems, and actions, activities and omissions that could be considered irresponsible. UNIDIR will provide support to the Chair of the OEWG, Amb Hellmut Lagos, as well as substantive inputs to the discussion.

• Expert statement to the OEWG on applicable elements of the legal regimes governing the sea in the context of threats arising from State behaviours with respect to outer space

• Submission to the OEWG on Existing Legal and Regulatory Frameworks concerning threats arising from State behaviors with respect to outer space: Submitted by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) 

• Submission on UNGA Resolution 75/36 on “Reducing Space Threats Through Norms, Rules and Principles of Responsible Behaviours”
