International Tracing Instrument (ITI) and the Way Forward: Examining Possible Options to Support the Operationalization of the ITI

01/09/2017

This project seeks to examine and identify concrete options to support the operationalization of the International Tracing Instrument (ITI). It will provide possible policy-focused recommendations for States to strengthen their implementation of the ITI, to support States in their preparation for the Third Review Conference of the UN Programme of Action (UN POA) and to contribute to discussions on the way forward for the ITI beyond 2018.

This project will:

1. REVIEW AND CONSOLIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS: Review and identify, for further examination, a select number of recommendations made by States between 2001 – 2016 to strengthen the ITI under the UN POA process; and

2. IDENTIFY CONCRETE OPTIONS FOR THEIR OPERATIONALIZATION: Examine potential ways to operationalize the selected recommendations in contributing to discussions leading up to and at the 3rd Review Conference of the UN POA.

Support from UNIDIR's core funders provides the foundation for all of the Institute's activities.
In addition, dedicated project funding was received from the Government of France.
