Identifying Concrete Steps to Move Forward Nuclear Disarmament

25 April 2018, Geneva, Switzerland

The second Preparatory Committee Meeting of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) comes at a difficult juncture in international nuclear politics. Not only does it take place in a polarized political atmosphere between nuclear and non-nuclear armed States, but there are regional tensions, particularly in North Asia, deteriorating relations between some of the nuclear powers, and various other WMD-related challenges to contend with.

In such a strategic context, what can be done to create the conditions for moving forward on nuclear disarmament? This will be the subject for this interactive panel event, in which SIPRI and UNIDIR will present recent research, produced with support from the Hiroshima Prefecture.

Support for this event was provided by the Government of the Prefecture of Hiroshima.

Speaker(s): Nobumasa Akiyama, Sibylle Bauer, John Borrie, Renata Dwan, Nobuharu Imanishi, Daniel Nord, Nick Ritchie, Hidehiko Yuzaki.

Partner(s): The Hiroshima Prefecture, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute

Support from UNIDIR's core funders provides the foundation for all of the Institute's activities.
